The Fira de Santa Llúcia, the oldest and most popular Christmas
fair in Catalonia, will open from 30 November to 23 December at the Pla
de la Seu on Avinguda de la Catedral. This year will be the fair's 227th
anniversary, and it will have 283 stalls offering traditional Christmas
products. Stall distribution by sector is as follows: 123 stalls
selling nativity-scene figures and articles, 96 selling plant materials,
60 selling crafts and 4 selling zambombas (friction drums). There is
also a wide range of leisure activities lined up.
The young ones will be able to enjoy the Tió Gegant at Plaça Nova. The 20th edition of Catalan Christmas Traditions and Customs Day will be celebrated on 13 December, to coincide with the Santa Llúcia Festivities. There will be a passacaglia of the Christmas Carassa, puppets, choral singing and the presentation of the Stallholder of Honour award, which this year goes to the Esbart Català folk dance troupe.
