Catalan Chimes on New Year's eve 2013
For the first time ever, Barcelona is preparing a great celebration to see off the year. This event, promoted by Turisme de Barcelona and led by La Fura dels Baus, will take place at the Montjuïc fountains with symbols of the Mediterranean. A spectacular show with suggestive images, music, a firework display and elements using the latest technology.
The highlight will be just before midnight with the appearance of the Millennium Spirit, a 15-metre high sculpture, representing the spirit of the City, which will come to life thanks to the Castellers de Sants. The traditional twelve strokes at midnight will pay tribute to Parsifal by Wagner, accompanied by volcanoes of fire and a great explosion behind the Magic Fountain. There will then be a firework display combined with the fountains.
According to Carles Padrissa, its creator, “this place, with the Buïgas fountains, the four Catalan bars, the Venetian towers… it is almost a mathematical place to meet and represent the deepest levels of our culture, which is the overall meaning of the occasion”.
A ritual that will undoubtedly thrill us all and will mark a new way of celebrating the New Year in Barcelona.
