Las tradicionales carreras de fin de año, que se organizan por todo el mundo en la mágica noche del 31 de Diciembre, se denominan " San Silvestre ".
La más clásica y antigua es la de Sao Paulo donde miles de personas celebran esta gran fiesta popular , el famoso " carnaval de fin de año " , por las principales calles de unas de las ciudades más pobladas del mundo , desde el año 1924.En Europa también se celebra esta tradicional carrera en capitales como Londres , Berlín , Roma o Madrid . Esta última , la "San Silvestre Vallecana " es la prueba más importante de nuestro país, donde atletas populares y de élite mundial participan por las principales calles de la ciudad , disfrutando de la fiesta deportiva de fin de año .En 1999 nació la San Silvestre Barcelonesa con un participación récord en Cataluña de 1710 participantes . Cada vez con más adictos y con el " boom " de las carreras populares , esta carrera llegó esta pasada edición los 9.000 participantes . El éxito alcanzado en cada una de las ediciones de la SSB la ha posicionado, sin lugar a dudas , en una de las actividades deportivas más importantes del calendario atlético.En la XII edición y con el empuje conseguida en la San Silvestre Barcelonesa , los organizadores transmitieron la ilusión a un lugar tan emblemático como es Sant Cugat . Este será el segundo año que se celebrará después del éxito de la pasada edición , este nuevo reto bien avalado por la posibilidad de seguir apostando de este magnífico entorno natural , consiguiendo trasladar todo el sentimiento de una " San Silvestre " en el corazón del Vallés y brindando a sus participantes la oportunidad de despedirse del año de la mejor manera posible , dejándolo atrás al cruzar la línea de llegada , bajo la atenta mirada del Monasterio de Sant Cugat.
